Resolutions or Goals?

I used to write resolutions every year and I realized that, they're basically the same. So instead, I'm going to stick to 3 goals that I want to do this year. Last year, I was kinda like, go with the flow, but this year, I'd like to be more clearer, to myself...lol.

I have 3 goals for this year, 2008.
1) Complete my case study and graduate by March 2009.
2) Be busier---go out more often with friends, be more active in my book forum, write every week on my blog and something work related which I will not talk about as it may be used against me in the court of law, kidding!!
3) Learn to drive, a car. I think I know how but it pays to let the professionals teach me. I hope this is something that I can do since I've been meaning to do this for several years now.

I was watching Hot Seat with Jessica Soho and one of the astrologers said that 2008, when added together is 10, which is something of a change in numerology. Well, that's certainly something that I looking forward to doing this year.

What about you? Whatcha going to be doing? It doesn't matter, whether its a goal or a resolution, whatever works for you.

The First Day of 2008

This year's celebration was a bit different from the rest of the years. Well, for starters, I was outside, instead of inside hiding from the noise of the firecrackers. My brother-in-laws were outside drinking and setting off firecrackers and 2 fountains for the baby so we decided to stay outside as well. We were outside as we watched the fireworks come 12 midnight and then it was their moment as they set off the numerous firecrackers by the gate. Fingers were still complete after that...hehehe...of course, we were waving at the baby as he enjoyed the view with my sister, Sheila at the balcony. I guess they couldn't resist so they went downstairs with us.

As usual, I ate something sweet. Instead of the fruit salad, I enjoyed the "bico" (its sticky rice with coconut milk and its soo good) and my soda drink on one hand. We usually have to eat something sweet so the new year will be equally sweet, and sticky? So that family members will always stick to each other. Then I followed that with grapes. It's round and means money. Before 12mn, I had a haircut, which according to my mom means something new. Leaving behind the old and starting with something new. I'd say this was something new because I don't remember getting a haircut everytime there was the New Year coming. But I didn't mind since I was long overdue for a haircut. My hair's shorter now and it feels strange since I've been sporting long hair for quite awhile now.

Then after watching a bit of TV, we went to bed. I was trying to fall asleep when the baby woke up. I think he had a nightmare what with the noise. I don't blame him. Even the dog, Sox, was dog gone crazy with all the noise. He didn't know where to go. He was shaking with fright. So we decided to let him stay in the bathroom where the noise wasn't that heard so much. He only came out when it was around 1 am.

So, there I was, about to fall asleep when the baby woke up crying. He wouldn't settle even though my sister was cuddling him or we were giving him toys.

Finally, my mom thought that he was scared because of the firecrackers so she told my sister to bring her to the balcony and show him that there weren't firecrackers anymore and that everyone was asleep, including babies like him. I think that reassured him and after that, she turned on the TV and they watched a music video channel to lull him to sleep.

The rest of us, were so sleepy so we just let them watch tv. I don't remember when she turned off the TV since I was asleep myself...hehehe..it was a long day.

Well, it was fun watching him play games by himself and throwing stuff...nothing was broken, luckily.

And now, I'm back home, enoying the first day by myself.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

What's in a Name? Part 2

The other day, my sister picked me up from the house and we went to mom's house to spend Christmas there.

She had told me the previous week that she was expecting a boy. Great!! I have another nephew. I was curious as to what she would call him. So I thought of some possible names.

Its true that in the Philippines, parents are very creative in choosing names for their kids. There are the usual staples, such as naming the kid after the dad. So there's always "Junior." Or other versions of it like 'Jun" or "Jun-jun" or "JR" or "Jay-R." But I think you get my drift.

Or the more creative one of combining the mother's and father's name to make a new name. And I figured that this is another option that my sister would take so I thought this was a possible name, so my nephew would probably be named "Justmono" or "Monojust" hehehe...just kidding ate!!!

Anyways, my sister said they're naming him, "Alexander" like Alexander the Great. I just hope he'll be great. I'm sure he won't try to hard, he is already in our eyes.

What's in a name? Part 1

A lot....

For example, in college, there would be three or two (most of the time, two what with my blockmate and coursemate who has the same name as I do) of us with the same name. So, I was called by my nickname. But, that was among blockmates. Most of the time, I was called by my first name as reflected in the class cards. The first K* was lucky because she was the first, I was always the middle K, if we were three.

Funnily enough, when I was in elementary, our classmates would call us using our last name. That's strange right? Same thing in high school, although, we started calling each other using our first names. Unless, you had a funny first name, like "Baby" then we'd resort to a more acceptable second name.

I could always distinguish classmates from elementary, high school or college. If they called me by my nickname and they're not family, chances are, they were my college classmates. Or if they called me by my first name, then they were probably my elementary or high school classmates.

When I attended graduate school, I would usually prefer to be called using my first name. Less complicated that way. Same is true at work. I don't care if there are 20 of us at work with the same first name. That's my name and I have a right to it.

After all, its a person's right to have a name...

So what's in a name? A lot...

My Favorite Links

I just love this fora that I go to. I accidently discovered it when I was checking into orkut. It's another community that I am a member in. So anyways, I loved it because I can get a lot of books. What kind? Err..probably most people don't read but for a Harlequin, Mills and Boon avid reader like me, its like heaven!!!

It's a pleasurable way to pass the time especially since I am again, in between jobs...hehehe...

Grrrrr to ScribeFire

Before I upgraded my ScribeFire, it used to work fine. Now, it's too buggy. Most of the time, what I write in my blog gets stuck for several days before I get to upload them. I know, I sound spoilt and should just log in to my blogger account, but what's the use of these Firefox extensions if I can't use 'em eh?

So anyways, they're pretty convenient when they do work. I just wonder what other embedded tags mean when they appear. All I know is that when they do, I can't upload into my blogger account...grrr....

Help!!! What's happening here? Anyways, seems like I'm not the only one with that problem. There are other users who have the same problem too. Oh well, I'll just keep on blogging.

D is for December

Oh no, the month that I dread, December!!!

It's supposed to be a by golly holly occasion but it seems to be too commercialized. Well, and good that you give and receive gifts, but sometimes, giving presents to someone you don't umm, really like? Where's the fun in that? Hehehe..or maybe I'm just my usual bah humbug self!!!

Anyways, this Christmas is different from all the other Christmases, why? Mmm, maybe because I won't be getting any ham....hehehe, I'll rely on my mom to buy that, or maybe my ate's firm is probably generous. But at least I won't be working on the 24th, har har har, well, not working at all is more like it.

Okay, I'm going to hibernate for awhile and write when I feel kinder...hehehe...at the very least.
