The day I got my passport...

At the back of my DFA receipt was stamped April 28, 2005 and 5:00 PM.

It was the day that I was going to claim my passport and I was really excited. I had planned earlier in the day to go to SM and buy groceries but I didn't want to exhaust myself and my patience so I decided not too. I knew that I was going to contend with long lines and long waits so I wanted to make sure that I was all psyched up and physically up to the extra challenge too.

It was weird though since it started to rain in the day. I crossed my fingers and hoped that there wouldn't be any rain anymore when I went out. I had lunch and went upstairs to my room to pass the time. I did my ironing and I studied for a couple of minutes and then took a nap. I didn't want to end up napping in the bus or feeling sleepy while waiting. I set my alarm to 3 PM.

I woke up at 3 but took me another 30 minutes to get out of bed. I didn't want to get up. Hahaha. I debated whether I would go there the next day but I thought I might screw things up just because I was too lazy to get up. Got dressed, which took me at least 30 minutes.

I left the house hurriedly since it was 3:45 PM by then. I thought there was going to be traffic. Traffic can be unpredictable here. I got on the bus and it was the usual, picked up passengers here and there but there weren't a lot of passengers by then. We got to Coastal it was only 4:10. Yikes, I was early. No traffic and the driver wasn't swapang. I wished we would slow down, or that there was traffic in Baclaran. But that didn't happen. I got to DFA about 4:25 PM. I went to the entrance and the lady guard asked me where I was going. I told her Releasinga and she asked to see my receipt. I showed it to her and I went to the basketball court.

I approached the DFA personnel there and he said there was a line for the releasing. It was only 4:30 then but there were several lines already. I think I was on the sixth line and we were still increasing in numbers. I think I counted 11 lines all in all. Finally, it was almost 5. I think everyone was just dying to get inside.

We finally went inside around 5:20 and we started around 5:30 PM. An announcer says the names really fast as well as the window where you are supposed to line up. So it really doesn't matter if you're in the first line or last line. Probably the only advantage you have is where you sit but other than that, no advantage really.

In between, there was another lady announcer who would call out names of people whose passports were pending so they had to go to Room 100. I kept on listening for my name. It was almost 7 by then and there were fewer people around. There was this particular announcer though who had difficulty saying the names. He sounded like he couldn't read them or something. And sometimes, the other announcer would say something too, so they were talking at the same time. It was crazy!!!

As usual, I listened to my name and I heard it or thought I heard it. I headed to Window 88. I was happy because there were only like 3 - 4 people ahead of me. Suddenly, more people lined up behind me. Our line was like a small snake by then. I tried to see what else was needed aside from the reciept. If you're claiming a passport in behalf of someone then you're required to show an identication card, an authorization letter, the ID of the person for whom you're claiming for and a photocopy of your ID. Finally it was my turn and I showed the clerk my receipt. He was like saying that he didn't see my name there. As he was leafing through the papers, I panicked and thought that probably I made a mistake. Finally, he got to the last set of papers and he saw my name. Whew!!! What a relief! I smiled at him and signed my name on the papers, got my passport and then signed my name again on the other side. I scanned through the information in the passport to make sure that there were no errors.

Yehey!!!! I was so happy. I headed home. It was almost 7 PM by then.

Hello World!!!!

Teetotalers

This I got from Wikipedia, to answer my question in what kind of a drink I am.

Teetotalism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Teetotalism is the principle or practice of complete abstinence from alcoholic beverages. A person who practices this is a teetotaler.

One account of the origin of the word attributes its origin to a meeting of the Preston Temperance Society in May 1832. This society was founded by Joseph Livesey, who was to become a leader of the Temperance movement and the author of The Pledge ("we agree to abstain from all liquors of an intoxicating quality whether ale, porter, wine or ardent spirits, except as medicine.") The story attributes the word to Dickie Turner, a member of the society, who had a stammer, and in a speech said that nothing would do but "tee-tee-total abstinence." The phrase stuck.

Other suggestions are that the word may have originated from the practice of putting a "T" next to one's name to indicate total abstinence; or it may have indicated drinking nothing stronger than tea; or it may simply be a reduplication of "total".

Frank Sinatra once said of teetotalers, "They wake up in the morning and that's the best they're going to feel all day."

A nephalist is a teetotaler who denies it.

From Laryh's blog

I got this from Laryh's blog.

What alcoholic drink am I? I don't know...maybe you can tell me...

Old friends

At last I got back yesterday from mom's house. I wasn't planning on returning yet but I had to. I was dying to meet and catch up with friends and it has been awhile since I saw them.

I left my mom's house past 3 PM. Although I was supposed to leave by 3 PM I got stuck in front of the TV, what else and was engrossed. But I knew I had to leave or else any later, I would be late for our 5:30 PM meeting in ATC.

Luckily, there wasn't any traffic and I got home around 4:30 PM. I was expecting to have the water pump working but according to my sister, still no water. The pump wasn't working and even the landlady wasn't there yet. Oh no. I wanted to freshen up a bit from my trip before changing.

As usual, I got engrossed with the TV. And before I knew it, it was 5 PM. Now I had to hurry to freshen up and change. The good news was, they were going to be running late too since they had to pick up their car from somewhere.

I had a hard time choosing what to wear. One thing was sure though, I wanted to wear my favorite pair of Gap jeans. The top was something to ponder though, do I wear my brown "Pocahontas" shirt, or the blue Hang Ten shirt? Or striped pink polo shirt. I ended up with the blue shirt. Then I had to put on lipstick, powder and cologne. Then there's what to bring in my small bag. Wallet, money of course since we were going to have dinner, keys to the house and a hanky.

Then I hurried downstairs to put on my sneakers. My favorite too and change for the fare.

Finally got there I think it was almost 6 PM. I checked my phone and turns out that they had just gotten there too. I tried to navigate around ATC and find out where Powerbooks is. I'm not exactly known for my spatial intelligence. I have been known to get lost...hehehe. Finally, found where Powerbooks was and proceeded to the escalator to the second floor to find Fridays.

I didn't want to get inside and look for them. So I got my phone and called Madz. She said they were in the right side of the restaurant. I didn't want to still go inside so I asked her if she could come outside and get me. Finally, I tried to peer at the side and I saw Rose. I told her that she needn't come and I was going in.

We had dinner and as usual, had a great time chatting and catching up. We were there around 6 PM and left the place about 10 PM. Yeah, it has been a long time since we last saw each other. The waiter who was serving us had already finished his shift and yet we were still there. There's nothing like great company to end a great week.

Looking forward to the next time guys!!!

No water...

I woke up early Thursday morning to go to the post office. And lo and behold...there was no water in the shower nor in the sink. Oh crap!!!

Apparently, the water pump needed to be winded according to the landlady. She was going to have water delivered so we won't stink up the place...hehehehe. I patiently waited for the water and surfed the net. Checked my email, read some blogs and told people I was going to be away for awhile. Might as well stay with my mom rather than suffer being water-deprived.

We only had like three pails in the house so I filled it up with water. Although there was water in the faucet already since they had water delivered, it was kind of murky...which I didn't really trust. I used up one pail for bathing...yeah, I didn't know how I did it.

Had lunch which consisted of two biscuits, watched a little bit of TV and then packed the stuff that I needed to bring at my mom's house.

This is certainly a day to remember...and not just for the lack of water.

NBI, DFA and Macro...

Finally I had the strength to wake up early today and pick up my NBI clearance in Carriedo. It was supposed to be yesterday but I didn't want to wake up very early and I didn't want to go to the DFA late so I decided to do it the next day. Looking back, it was a blessing in disguise with opening of Makro causing a horrible traffic. If I could give a BAD BUSINESS Award, it would have to be for MACRO. They SUCK!!!! They caused so much traffic and inconvenience. Again, let me just say that they SUCK!!!!! I don't want to go there and patronize them. I'm all for cheap prices and all that but if its the expense of a lot of people, then its certainly not worth it.

Okay, going back to the NBI, I finally went there and got my NBI clearance. Yahoo!!! Well, the picture looks blurry but I think its safe to say that I look bad. Well, considering that they don't really tell you when they take the picture then its understandable. Traffic going there was a bit heavy too. I think it was the fire trucks heading that way. There was a fire in Binondo which lasted 12 hours. Wow, 12 hours! Apparently, it was because the building had plastic toys and they were burnt too hence the huge fire. A lot of casualties too since the grills were too thick and the burnt plastic didn't help too. Yeah, that's the drawback of trying to keep out thieves, you can't get out when you need too. That was the case too of that fire that happened in Makati, you know the Speaker of the house's daughter and all that.

Oops, digressed again. Finally got to DFA about 11:30 am. I was worried for awhile about lunch break. On my way there, I was hesitant since it was my first time. There were the usual vultures who were there. Fixers, "mangingilad" all those kinds, just have different names. I almost was conned but I remembered Laryh's advice 'bout some people who lead you some way but they're really out to con you. Almost, but I just had this bad feeling so I told them I changed my mind. This girl kept on saying this and that but I didn't listen anymore. I finally went to the security guard and talked to him. She still kept on yakking. It was in a way scary since you don't know what these people are capable of doing. I almost went home and didn't want to go through the whole thing. Anyways, finally went in the side street and looked for the basketball court. I wasn't meaning to do that but I just figured out and followed some people too.

When I got there, I almost left again...hehehehe. It is after all scary if you don't know anything. I tried to read the guidelines there and asked around where the passport form is. A lady pointed to a table and I got one form. The clerk there said that we should fill it out first before lining up. Anyways, like an obedient child, I filled it out. Afterwards, again, I was lost so I asked a couple of people and they couldn't really answer me so I went back to the clerk. He asked for my records like NBI, birth certificate and IDs. I told him that I only had one ID with me. He said he wasn't sure if it was acceptable but he said I could take a chance. He also said it should be photocopied and after that I should go to the third table and have a picture taken. Again, like a greenhorn that I am, I went to the third table and I noticed that the people there were putting their pictures and thumbprints. One of the people there said that I should have my picture taken. I had my picture taken there and I must say that I look horrible...hehehehe. I felt horrible and I looked the part. Well, it was like those photo-me things so I knew that I'd look bad.

Finally went back to the third table and glued my picture. There was a glue stick left there and I basically folowed what those people there were doing. I put my left and right thumbprints and stapled the plastic pouch with my 2 pictures in the next table.

After that, I asked again the groups of people seated on the bench where to line up and they said that I could sit there. I was happy about that. A few minutes later, one of the clerks collected our papers. Yipee...but that was shortlived. We waited for like 2 hours there. And it was so hot. At least I wasn't hungry. It always pays to eat especially if you know that you're going to line up for a long time. The people who were seated there were pretty chatty too, so I just listened in on their conversations, which they didn't really mind and smile and nod in between. Since there was still space in the bench that I was seated, a lot of people would sit down. We would take turns telling them to find the end of the line and not just sit anywhere. There was this particular lady though who was pretty stubborn and just kept on following me. In fact, she sat ahead of me when she wasn't supposed to be there. I didn't want to have to tell her again so I just ignored her. While we were there waiting, they also explained the steps to getting our passport. They also gave out a flier when you get your form.

Here are the steps:
Start Here (Basketball court) - There is a separate line for those who are new applicants and renewals. The renewal line is much faster and shorter. On the other hand, the line for the new applicants is very long. Even more challenging than the ones in the NSO and NBI. Super extra challenge.

Step 1 - Records Verification (Data checking and clearance)
Step 2 - Document Evaluation and Processing (Validity Checking of Documents)
Step 3 - Payment (Proceed to the CASHIER for the payment of fees)
Step 4 - Releasing Schedule (Stamping of Date and Time for passport picking)

The documents you would need if you're a new applicant should be original birth certificate preferably on NSO paper. This is really helpful. When you go to step 2 and the clerk there thinks that the document is tampered then they won't process it. Original NBI clearance and IDs like Driver's license, PRC ID, Old SSS form (I think that's the pink one that you keep as a personal copy when you get your SSS number), Transcript of Records, Postal ID, School ID, company ID. I know there are other kinds of IDs but there are the ones that I could remember. There is a bulletin board in the basketball court that you can check out too. You should photocopy any of these IDs, front and back and attach a copy along with your documents and passport application.

Finally, the guard called us and led out of the basketball court. When we got inside, were just starting Step 1. I think it took about an hour before we got back our documents. We were told that we shouldn't break the line that we made while we were in the basketball court. But this really stupid guy wearing a yeallow striped shirt who didn't stay where he was supposed to. The guy in front of me wearing a red shirt reprimanded him too. I just gave him "the look." I think he felt stupid too in the end since if he wasn't where he was supposed to be we could end up getting delayed or something. Finally, our line was called and this lady who wasn't supposed to be there but kept on following us was left behind. She wasn't called since she wasn't in our batch. I wonder what she did. I noticed that on our passport form, they had stamped I think the words "verified" close to the picture as well as the date and the place in the lower box where the passport application was filed.

We went to another room for Step 2. The lines there were really long and irregular too. The other lines that weren't as long were for renewals. Renewals are so lucky. From my observation, I think pinoys aren't too fond of keeping straight lines. Sometimes its not too clear where they are in your line or in another line. Its hard to tell where the end is sometimes. I finally found a not-so-long line and waited for my turn. What annoys me when lining up is that there are some people who like to push people in front of them. Maybe they think that by doing so, they would make the line move faster. Hello? Duh? Can't you wait. Finally, I couldn't bear it anymore so I moved a bit to the side. I think she finally understood that it was annoying me.

While waiting for my turn, I worried about whether my Social Security Id would be acceptable. It was also interesting to see what problems people ahead of me would encounter. There was one lady whose birth certificate seemed "tampered" as the clerk said. She was told to get a birth certificate from NSO on NSO paper. Another guy had to have his ID photocopied and attached. I wonder why he didn't do that earlier. The guy before me had a problem with his birth certificate. Apparently, his last name in the birth certificate was different from the name that he was using in his other documents. His last name in the birth certificate was "Merabueno" instead of "Mirabueno" and according to law, the passport is based on the information in the birth certificate. He's supposed to make an affidavit or something. Wow, that's terrible. I know that can be a long process. So parents, please make sure that you write the correct information when you register your children's names. They could end up with a different last name from yours. Hey, that reminds me of Ms. Ethel. Her last name is spelled Longaquit while her parents and sisters and brothers spell theirs as Longakit.

Finally, I had my turn. I gave my documents and I showed my ID. He accepted it..yes!!!! He asked me what payment I would like, I opted for the 500 pesos for 6 working days. Then I wrote my name on a piece of paper and he gave me my receipt. Yes!!! On my way to the next step.

The next step is much easier compared to the rest. I just had to pay the cashier and show my receipt. I panicked a bit when I couldn't find my money...hehehe.

Step 4 was just a few steps away where they stamped my reciept April 28, 5 pm. I could've had my passport delivered for an extra fee but I wanted to try out the whole experience. Hehehehe. Sort of a complete baptism of fire. I'm sure the releasing is going to be another challenge. I saw the people who were waiting for their paspports and it isn't a pretty site too. But that's gotta be worth all the wait.

And that basically sums up my DFA challenge. You really need loads and loads of patience and do your best not to be conned by those terrible, terrible people. I know we all need to make a living but I wish they'd do their honestly and not rob people of their hard-earned money.

More on my DFA challenge next week when I finally claim my passport.

What is my next challenge? Passing my compre this May...owwwwwwww...

Justine, not Jasmine....

Water, we need water. Just when we need water, where are the water delivery people? My sister passed by their office this morning and until now, we don't have any water. I called them again to remind them. I just hope that the man who took the phone call remembered. He asked for the name and when I said "Justine" he kept on saying "Jasmine?" I kept on saying "Justine" still he said "Jasmine?" NOpe....I guess now I know where the water went. I just hope Jasmine enjoys all that water.

Mom made wonderfully delicious linguine. Yum yum.

Another first today, I actually didn't do my laundry. Oh well, I am still on vacation. I'll probably do that tomorrow before I go malling. Mom said that there's another transport strike on Monday so I have to stay put on Monday. Tuesday, I am off to the NBI Carriedo office again. Maybe if I have the courage to take on the Extra Challenge I will try to go to the DFA. I am crossing my fingers so tight.

My Birthday Week

My Birthday Week

Wow, what a week it has been. Next week, I still have that DFA experience to go through and I will have to do it alone. Oh well, another adventure. Definitely, despite the long lines and tiring days, it has been very fruitful and certainly worth the effort.

Things I learned about the whole thing:
1) Bring a ballpen. You don't want to be borrowing someone's pen while lining up.
2) Bring enough money for the food, fares and fees. You don't want to be hungry or else you're going to be masungit and won't last.
3) Go to the restroom before lining up. Granted, you can ask someone to save your place but its better to be there yourself.
4) Don't be maarte or picky when you have to use the restroom. What do you expect?????? Restrooms na mala-hotel?
5) Bring an ID just in case and when you need to claim documents. SSS, passport and other acceptale IDs will do. I think the ones with photos are preferable.
6) Be patient. (YOu need tons of these especially when they ask you to come back. I should know.)
7) Have fun....even if its no fun...find humor in it. Look what I did, its in my blog.

Happy Birthday Regina!

I woke up at 7 AM today. Amazing ha!!! Considering I was deadtired the day before. I turned on my phone and greeted Regina a happy birthday. Surprise, I got a text from her telling me that we should meet on that day around 9 AM to see the M.A.Ed program head. Hmm...I didn't know if I could make 9 AM so she said 10 would be fine. I was worried that my sister was still going to take her shower but she was already getting ready to leave for her job interview in Makati. I rushed to take a shower, eat a biscuit, brush my teeth, dress up and prepare the papers that I would need. I had already set aside possible papers I would need like my Certification for grad school and the receipt for the NSO. Since I would be in school early, I figured that I would be done after lunch and can go to the NSO to pick my birth certicate.

I think I left the house around 8 AM and took a bus til Baclaran. I was going to take the MRT jeep from Baclaran and take the MRT til Shaw. It was the fastest way compared to taking the bus. Unfortunately, the bus driver was so swapang. He kept on making stops and picking up passengers. I guess he had to earn a living too. I think I got to Baclaran quarter to 9 and there was no traffic. Took that jeep and got off before at the intersection. I knew there were traffic enforcers after the intersection and didn't want to end up getting off farther from the MRT station.

Usually, I buy a one hundred pesos prepaid card since I frequently use the MRT when I was attending regular classes in grad school. But since they are valid for only six months, I didn't want to was the card. I had already wasted 3 cards previously. Sayang din the one hundred cards althought it is really convenient since you don't have to line up, especially when you're in a hurry and the lines are long. I decided to use the other entrance since the neareast entrance was just swamped with people. I got my one way ticket to Shaw for fourteen pesos I think, or was it twelve? Now I can't remember. I was a little worried that it would be crowded but realized that since it was vacation, not a lot students would be using it and it wasn't rush hour anymore.

I finally got off the MRT around 9:30 AM and I was starting to feel hungry. I went by McDonald's and had a Longganisa breakfast. By the time I was done eating, it was a quarter to 10. I was crossing my fingers that there wouldn't be any traffic. Shaw Boulevard is a very street and sometimes traffic can be horrible. Again, it wasn't so I was lucky. Yahoo!!!

I left my ID at the guard area and wore my visitor's ID. Since I wasn't enrolled, my ID doesn't work anymore. Their ID system is computerized so they'd know. I went to the restroom to freshen up and texted Regina that I was in school already. I saw the grad school librarian and we chatted for a few minutes. When I was done, I waited outside in the lobby.

As I was sitting, the elevator operator came over and we chatted. Its pretty much a small world in grad school so she knows most of us by face, not really by name. She even knows if the professors are there or not. She mentioned that the M.A.Ed head was there so I was texting Regina to hurry up.

Finally, Regina arrived. Wow, she looked like she had grown taller. Or maybe I just grew smaller? Hehehehe. We gathered our courage and went to her office. What transpired there, I won't write about anymore. That's that.

After our meeting with the head, we returned to the lobby and chatted again. It has been awhile since we got to talk. One of the things that I really treasure in my years in grad school is the friendship that Regina and I have. She told about some of the things, mostly sad, that has happened to her in last couple of months. She's a very brave girl and it was her birthday too. I know, she can handle those things and with the help of her family, she will remain strong. She's quite a fighter.

It was almost lunch but we had to pass by the HR department. Her mom is resigning after many years of service as a librarian. Unfortunately, the person we were looking for wasn't there so we went to the library to return the book her mom had borrowed.

We were supposed to eat at a Chinese restaurant al fresco but for some strange reason, they were closed at that day. Reggie said that they usually open at 10 AM and she has brought several people there and this was the first time that they were closed. Oh well.

We ended up at Jollibee. I wanted to try out the Jolly Beef Rice. She was taken aback and thought I just wanted to order "fries." For dessert, a chocolate sundae and a very large Coke. She ordered the same thing too.

While waiting for the food, we continued our conversation. She told me that she always ended up feeling "bwisit" on her birthday. And it looked like the same thing was happening again. Anyways, we still had a great lunch. I was very very full after that and wondered how I could get to NSO with such a big stomach...hehehe. It was really gluttony. We also agreed on when we'd meet again for the comprehensive exam.

I passed by the drugstore to pick up Vitamin C tablets. I haven't been taking Vitamin C for several days since I ran out. As usual, took the MRT and when I got off the last station which is Taft. I had observed that there was a jeep going to the DFA so I chose that. There were several people there too who were going to the DFA. Finally, I saw AIMS and the driver was quite helpful and said that was where we were supposed to get off and take the side street and to the right to that street was DFA. You really wouldn't miss it since there are also a lot of people going there too. But that wasn't where I was going. I was going to the NSO. I finally ended up at Roxas Boulevard and crossed the pedestrian. There were several people crossing too so I wasn't worried about getting run over.

When I arrived at the NSO, it was almost 2 PM, the line for releasing was very very very long. Super duper extra challenge. What was worse was that it started raining. We were under a roof yes but we were getting drenched despite that. Probably, the security guards received a lot of complaints so they fixed the lines and we ended up inside the building. People were also very vigilant and did not allow anyone to just line up indiscriminately. As usual, I tried to pass the time by either watching TV (which I couldn't hear since it was probably mute) or staring into space. After 2 hours, it was finally my turn. I presented my ID (SSS ID or other IDs are just as
useful, probably preferable are the ones with photos) and I got my birth certificate. Now its just my NBI clearance and I can start working on my passport application.

I boarded a bus as usual to go home and I just relaxed. There wasn't traffic so I arrived home around 5:30. My sister had already prepared dinner and I was really hungry. But I think Almost Doggie or Doggie (my mom likes to call her Bengbeng) was banging at the door so we obliged her and fed her.

I finally got around to checking my email (which I didn't do the previous day) and I felt better.

NBI and NSO

I woke around 8 AM so I would still have time to prepare my stuff and not panic and forget things. I brought IDs, a ballpen, chocolate to munch on and of course, money to pay the fees. I also brought my jeans for repair. They were too long and I have been meaning to drop them off at the tailor's for a long time now but haven't had the time.

Laryh arrived at our designated area which is just at the entrace to the village that I live in. I recognized her right away with her big shades and her big smile.

We boarded an aircon bus going Sta. Cruz. Luckily there are airconditioned buses here who ply the route to Lawton or Sta. Cruz. Either buses are okay going to Carriedo which is where you can get your NBI clearance. Its in a "mall" and very accessible. You can pretty much follow the crowd of people who go there. We got there around 12:15 NN. Laryh said there was no lunch break so we didn't have to worry about waiting. It was lunch time but we wanted to finish it first before
eating lunch.

Before you can get inside though, you have to pay twenty pesos as maintenance fee. Companions aren't allowed inside too but I told Laryh she should've paid that maintenance fee so she could get in. She went back out since she couldn't get in with me and I went upstairs to the first step. I presented my stub and got a form to fill out. I waited for Laryh by the escalators but the man who was manning the booth for the forms told me to sit by the chairs and fill it out. I followed him and sat down filling it out and watching out for Lar at the same time. I was almost done with the first part when I saw her. She helped me fill out some parts and there was also a guy asking her too. She was very helpful. Maybe she missed her calling...hehehe. Finally, I finished and our next challenge was to find the shortest line for the payment which is the first step. It can be quite intimidating and even disheartening when you see a long line closes to where the escalator is and the chairs. The trick is to scout for the shortest line. The first floor is just for the payments and there are a lot of windows open. Short lines tend to get covered with the long lines so you have to look around. We found the shortest line closest to the first aid area. While waiting, we were chatting as usual. That's what's so great about brining a companion, never a dull moment. We also checked out the fees. The funny thing is, they pretty much breakdown the different purposes but you'd pay the same amount of one hundred fifteen pesos. Its either for local, travel abroad or seaman. Since my purpose was for my passport application, I wrote travel abroad. Finally it was my turn and we went to the next floor for the second step.

The second step was the screening. Again, you'd think the lines were really long. There was another line for the picture taking and if you weren't careful, you'd end up in that line too. Screening just meant the person was going to look over your form and ask you questions if you missed answering a blank. Again, that was fast. I went to the next line.

The third step was just basically them scanning the number on your card, well at least that was what I saw. Again, that was fast.

Fourth step was taking a picture. Our line had to be moved so we wouldn't block the lines going to the second step. It was fast too. Laryh told me that she had a horrible looking picture and that I should always look at the camera otherwise, the man manning the booth would scold me. I fixed my hair a bit and waited for my turn. The funny thing is, they don't really tell you that they're taking your picture already so the trick I think is when its your turn, you just need to stand still and look at the camera. Forget about the smiling part, unless there isn't someone behind you and waiting for their turn. With that finally done, we went to another floor for my "piano exercise."

I told Laryh that I had experienced that already. I won't delve into the details but it was done at work. She said that I should pay the man two pesos for the wet ones.
Finally, I was done with the fifth step which was fingerprinting. It wasn't difficult at all. You just need to relax and let the person doing the fingerprinting do his job. The wet ones does help to remove the ink from your hands.

The sixth step was to submit my application form. The man behind the counter decided to entertain a query while it was my turn so I just got my receipt and went to the next counter.

The seventh and final step was the releasing. I lined up and gave my receipt to the "masungit" guy on the counter. He said that I had to go back to the previous step which I did. The man there stamped my receipt with a date. I didn't know what it meant by then. I finally went back to the releasing counter and I learned there that my clearance would not be released til April 19. Oh crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On our way out, we talked to one of the people who were also getting their NBI clearance who had the same problem. They thought they could get it on the same day too. One of them said that it was because there was someone with the same name as we had. Oh crap!!!! There I thought my name was quite unique. So, if I decide to have children one day, I should give them weird names so no one else could have the same name as they have.

We left since we couldn't do anything anyways and decided to eat lunch. We ended up in Jollibee. I treated Laryh to lunch. I considered it my birthday and thank you treat for accompanying me.

As we were leaving, I tried to remember the landmarks since I will be returning there on Tuesday all by myself. Laryh is going back to work since she only has a week vacation leave. We boarded a bus which usually plies the route going home. Lucky me, at least it won't be complicated when I go back there. We were going to get off at the Serbilis Center of the NSO which is along Roxas Boulevard just across the DFA and just beside the BSP.

We arrived I think past 1. It was almost 2 PM. We saw a rather long (very long) line going to the NSO. We asked what line it was for and they said it was for releasing. Uh oh.

I got a form from the security guard and started filling it out. Laryh as usual was investigating and going around reading the steps. She told me that I should start lining up for Step 2 which is Q number. So I fell in line and filled out my form at the same time. I was rushing since I was afraid it would be my turn and I wasn't done filling it out. I ended up making several mistakes. From writing my father's maiden name, mother's maiden name and all those things. Man, they can be confusing sometimes. Finally, it was my turn after a long wait and true enough, I got a number.

Guess that was the Q number as well as the clerk in the counter checking my form whether I filled it out correctly.

After that, I went to the third step which is the payment. The line was even longer. The end of the line was outside the building. Laryh looked for me since she went out when it was my turn at the counter. Again, it was quite awhile before I finally got inside. Again, the advantage of bringing someone with you when you do these things is that you get to chat with someone and won't get bored. There was even someone reading a book while waiting. Or a bunch of papers to study. That was wise considering the amount of time you spend lining up.

Finally, it was my turn and I was so happy. I paid one hundred twenty-five for my birth certificate. Its not that I don't have a copy of it, I do. It is just that its a requirement printed on special paper before I can apply for a passport. I got my receipt and the clerk there wrote 4/15 and 2 pm on the paper. Just to be sure, I asked the security guard if it meant what I thought it meant and I was right. My birth certicate would be released April 15th at 2 PM, which is just next day in the afternoon. It was fast. Yipee!!! Darned that NBI clearance.

Laryh and I agreed that it was "mala-extra challenge" ulit so we treated ourselves to a snack before we went our separate ways. Laryh was going to Manila to stay with a friend for a night for their adventure the next day to Tagaytay. We had drinks and junk food and chocolate and of course, more chitchat. Laryh is really a very girl without even trying and has a serious side as well. Naks, Lar!!!

I think it was almost 5 when we left the NSO. We also went to the loo and gosh, that was super ha. I can't quite describe it and won't go in to details.

Laryh mentioned that it was sayang I couldn't do the extra challenge of crossing the "highway." I told her that what if you want to be law abiding and use the pedestrian lane? True enough, we saw a sign with an arrow pointing to the pedestrian lane. We walked a bit and we said our good byes.

She was law abiding and used the pedestrian lane. It was kind of close to the Cuneta Astrodome and I wanted to remember that when I returned the next day.

I boarded a bus going home and I was so so happy with what I accomplished for the day. It was a long and fruitful day. I wouldn't have done those things if it weren't for Laryh. Thanks talaga Lar, I owe you one...er...two ba?

The Good News

I was expecting Reggie to call since we had plans to go to school. So I decided to call her. She had gone to work so I texted her. She said that she didn't go to JRU yet but will tell me as soon as she gets there.

Again, I was planning to go out. I still had things to do but I just got distracted with watching TV. Or just reading in my room.

The good news that I got though is that Laryh is willing to go with me to the NBI, NSO and DFA.

Whoopee!!!! That's really cool Lar. That pretty much made my day.

Happy Birthday to me!!!

Posting scores took me longer that I thought in neopets. It was 12:07 AM when my sister told me from her room Happy Birthday too. Thanks ate!!! Finally I was off to bed.

I woke up about 9 AM I think. The first thing I did was to turn on my mobile phone. I got greetings from my mom (who was coming over) and friends. Thanks to everyone who remembered my birthday.

Regina, or Reggie as we call her also called. She's my grad school classmate from since we started and a good friend too. I've been in grad school for 4 years this June. It's that long already. We feel like we're getting a bachelors degree after. But if there is something that I marvel at, its the fact that we've stayed together through thick and thin. After the birthday greetings and short catching up, we planned on meeting within the week so we could talk to the program director. Since she lived really close to the school, she was going to go to the school and talk to her and just text me about it. I felt a little guilty asking her again when her birthday was. I knew it was April too. She said it was the 15th. I've got it in my phone so I won't forget and also in my YM calendar.

Laryh also told me that she and her brother were going to the NBI and DFA to fix their papers. I wanted to go with them. It would be nice to be with someone when you're lost...hehehe. At least its not just you. I told them that I couldn't come and they pretty much understood. I told her to tell Gina too about it. Since Gina and I also planned to do those things together.

Mom finally arrived and we had breakfast. I had already eaten earlier but ate some more. Oh well. For my birthday lunch, we had planned on going to Contis. Yummy!!! I was looking forward to the dessert actually. Mango tango or Oreo cheesecake and maybe Starbucks....yummy.

We still had a lot of time to spare and mom was waiting for the mechanic so we watched TV and in between, had a little chitchat. Mom also called our aunt (her sister, Victoria or Tia Vicvic as we call her). PLDT, still has this great promo going on, wherein you can call anyone in the country who has a PLDT line or a SMART subscriber and ony pay ten pesos regardless of the time. Makes me wish I knew someone ...hehehehehe.

We waited and waited for the mechanic to come. It was past 12 and I was just soooooo hungry. Finally, mom decided that we would eat in the mall. I was sad about that.

When we go there, we scouted for a place to eat in. No fastfoods of course. We got to Pancake House and that's where we decided to eat. Not a bad choice but I think they're really known for the pancakes. My mom had a steak, I had Hot Roast Chicken and my sister Fish Bonoan. I was pretty full afterwards. We stayed a bit longer to chat too.

After lunch, we went to the supermarket to buy food. Yep, the cupboards were clean so we bought something to tide us over. And after that, we went home. I think I took a nap afterwards. That pretty much sums up my birthday. We celebrate birthdays simply and as long as we're together we're happy. I for one am just happy when people remember to greet me on my birthday. But it was a little bit disapointing too. I think I was expecting someone to greet me too but when I didn't have that, it was really disappointing. "Great Expectations" sums it up. I think I've really learned my lesson this time.

Putting Everything On Hold

I was supposed to go to the mall but I ended up staying at home. We were expecting mom to come over but she changed her mind.

Now I remembered why I stayed home instead of leaving. My sister said there was a transport strike planned for that day. I didn't want to end up carrying heavy things and walking home.

As usual, I watched television programs. Irene is still running which is quite surprising since Koreanovelas tend to have short life-spans since story lines don't drag. A definite plus. But so far Irene is still running but from what my sister said, it is almost ending. I had thought it was going to end when she got married but now they're getting a divorce, had a child and still its showing. Hmm...really interesting.

I finally had time to do my ironing too. Being on vacation mode has also meant that all my chores have gone on vacation. I'm doing my darndest to enjoy it. Even blogging was put on hold. I think in some ways, its because that writing it down will make everything real. Whereas, not, seems like there are still good things that I hope would happen.

If there is one thing that I almost always don't forget doing, its checking up on my neopets and posting scores to earn neopoints. It's difficult taking care of three neopets, especially with a skeith since they eat anything!!! And I mean anything!!! I learned that the hard way when hot_chair (that's my adopted neopet's name) decided to eat my yellow lupe plushie. I wasn't too pleased about it. I removed "expensive" items from my inventory just in case it gets hungry again. I even thought of returning him to the pound but decided against it. My other neopets are both lupes (yeah, I guess I like lupes) and they don't do that when they're hungry. The other lupe is also adopted, Mayzen72. My original neopet is cupcake0907. Neopets is really fun especially if you have time to play with them, explore neopia and buy stuff from books, food, etc. You should try it you want to have an online pet. Check out www.neopets.com .

Before I went to bed, Laryh and Jorge did greet me an advanced Happy Birthday. Thanks Laryh and Jorge for remembering.

Meet "Almost Doggie"

Meet "Almost Doggie." The dog that mysteriously moved in. Where did she come from? Who's her owner? We don't know. But she's welcome to stay. I just hope the "Dog Catcher" won't catch her when they start again on April 11.

Sidebar

You may have noticed that little poem that I posted at the side bar. That's my favorite poem at the moment, "All Paths Lead to You."

I'd like to think that at some point in my life, I have found that "lark song" that calls me home.

Thanks to my ate for the idea at the side bar. I wouldn't have been able to do it if she didn't do it herself in her blog. Its very good too. And I'm not only saying that cause she's my sister. Check out her site at: http://blognawng.blogspot.com

Our "Almost Doggie"

A puppy just suddenly moved into our apartment complex. We don't know where it came from. I thought it was our neighbors. I mean, why would a strange dog, er puppy just suddenly live here. But the poor thing seems to be ownerless. It has grown thin and skinny. It doesn't bark at us though but wags its tail whenever it sees us. We decided to call it "Almost Doggie" or "Doggie" for short since its not really our dog but seems like our dog since it lives here. Oh well, hopefully I didn't confuse you there.

We thought our neighbor feeds it since they feed Macky, the official dog here. I haven't seen them feed it though or see any sign of a food container for it. It does sleep in the neighbor's mat so I guess that's the extent of their hospitality. My sister finally pitied it and gave it chicken bones Thursday night during dinner. And to follow was clean water since it has been very warm. We didn't want it to suffer heat stroke.

Today, when my mom saw the poor thing, she gave it lunch again. Apparently, it was sleeping in front of our door. I noticed that she had been doing that yesterday night too after I gave her food.

After dinner today, I felt sad for her so I gave her food again. I think she wasn't that satisfied since she banged on the door twice. I just called her and that seemed to make her happy.

She has been rather fond of going out of the gate too and creating a raucuous with the other dogs. Since she's so skinny, she can pass in between the gaps in the gate. She probably barks at anything or anyone who passes by. We could hear her upstairs during the night.

Hopefully, she won't get into trouble outside or get hit by a passing vehicle. Or worse, caught by the village dog catchers. During summer, they catch dogs that just walk around and you have to pay like two hundred pesos to claim your dog. It will just break our heart if they take her and then nobody claims her.

My sister said she should be getting used to being petted. But I guess that's going to take sometime. She's still pretty skittish and runs away whenver I try to pet her. I just hope she gets tamed pretty soon.

Here's to "Almost Doggie." May her real owners look for her and find her before its too late. And until then, we'll do our best to take care of her.

The Heat is on....

Its really summer. I can feel the heat here there and everywhere. Just today, I woke up early just because it was so hot in my room not to mention bright so that wasn't particularly conducive to sleeping.

Laundry as usual, I'm sure it was dry by afternoon. I spent the rest of the afternoon downstairs where the heat is more bearable.

I did finally get to play Starcraft 1. The old version, I know but its so much fun. I had to dig out my cheats too. Hehehe. Either that or I won't survive in the game for long. I especially like the part where I get to build whatever I want to build. I did fail in one mission where one of the Zerg buildings got destroyed. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow I can do that. Or maybe not. I have to wake up early tomorrow so we could attend the christening tomorrow morning.

Lunch Out

Today, we had lunch out at Papot's house. Thanks Papot for being kind enough to host us for lunch. I really enjoyed the food and of course, the company. Too bad we couldn't stay for long. I'll miss having you around next year but I know that you have to do what you have to do in Italy. And I loved meeting your dogs, Roxy and Ginger and your cats. :-)

Ciao baby!!!! Don't forget to visit Cortona...hehehehe. Amore!!!! (I know, my Italian sucks. But I try!!!)

Incidentally, I know this is April Fools' Day but nobody did play tricks on me, whew!!! And today is the birthday of my ate's college friend, Cheryl. Happy birthday Cheryl!!!
